摘要:Algae are remarkably successful organisms with a broad distribution in contemporary oceans and with a well-known capacity to adapt rapidly to highly variable conditions in aquatic habitats, suggesting possible epigenetic-based processes of gene regulation. Recent work published by us and others has shown the presence of DNA methylation and post translational modifications of histones (PTMs) in several algae species including the diatoms P. tricornutumT. pseudonanaF. cylindrus as well as green algae such as Chlorella and Ostreococcus. To gain insights into the contribution of epigenetics to the success of algae in contemporary oceans, we used the model diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum and draw a comprehensive landscape of its chromatin to understand how this one contributes to diatom growth and responses to environmental cues.  Latest clues on some of the epigenetic readers involved and their importance shown by integrative genomic approaches are presented.
