报告摘要:
Regional development in the past has been focused on resource exploration & economic outcomes without paying enough attention to ecological & environmental conservation. As a result nowadays we humans both in the US & China are paying a deep price for what we have done to the environment. The case studies reveal the stories of impacts of short-sighted human activities on ourselves at 2 major eco-regions in North America; the Mississippi River Watershed & the Gulf of Mexico Basin. Mississippi River is the Mother River of the US as Yellow River or Yangzi River of China, and is a key agricultural zone in the world; and Gulf of Mexico, the most important fishery & tourist in the US. In recent years human induced disasters have kept pounding & striking on human settlements and their physical & economic infrastructures that we build in the past. Resilience is no longer sustainable to safe our communities if we don't change the economic-driven approach in regional planning development to an ecological-balanced approach.
